The second single off forthcoming, hotly anticipated debut album Live Forever, “Boomer” by Bartees Strange seeks and succeeds to be all things to all people. Genre-classification for this artist is beyond difficult, as his style and lyrical ability cross those often arbitrary boundaries. This bluesy-indie-classic rock revival track has an impossibly groovy guitar riff permeating its runtime, and features a catchy as fuck chorus that proclaims Bartees’ arrival. This single and previously covered track “Mustang” show just how refreshing and revitalizing Bartees’ sound is for the indie scene.

really abrupt start. Yo I think this song is bad ass. I felt like the lyrics were describing him grappling with life. The part were he talked about getting his hopes up and it blowing up in his face and how it matched his vocal octave had a healing quality.

Listening to “Boomer” by Bartees Strange bristles me in more ways than one. I don’t like that the hook of the tune sounds like a Kings of Leon song. I am not feeling the noodling guitar solo that is buried in the mix. The rest of the track clashes with whatever sounds come before them. Bartees Strange is an artist that can pull off some spectacular compositions and new ideas. A great example is the other track “Mustang,” released from the same album. I don’t hate the track for trying something new, I was just not crazy about the results.
