Today’s act is no stranger to this motley little blog. This notorious Brooklyn-based project always deliver with palpable energy and sunshine-y, surf infused bops. We had the pleasure to speak with the spectacular Jess and Jono about their recent release, “Drive,” and their musical growth.

Would You Rather

have everything you wear always be three sizes too big or two sizes too small?

Jess: Too big.

Jono: Too big.

Some questions with High Waisted

The most recent single, “Drive” showcases a more emotional side to your sound. How would you say your work has matured since your debut in 2016?

Jess: It’s more confrontational.

Jono: We know where we came from but aren’t afraid to expand the sound of what we’re creating.

What are your top three used emojis? Do you have any?

Jess: ✨😂💕

Jono: 🤙🤠🤷‍♂️

Do you collect anything, what is it and why?

Jess: I save matches from bars and restaurants I’ve been to

Jono: I steal everyone’s hair ties, muahaha. Kidding, I collect souls.

What was the core inspiration behind the upcoming album, Sick of Saying Sorry?

Jess: That you can achieve anything if you work for it. And that everyone deserves happiness.

Jono: Not stopping, even when we thought we couldn’t go any further.

How has the community of artists and musicians in NYC influenced you?

Jono: We work within the most talented, hardworking and competitive community of musicians in the country if not the world.

What was your first job? How did it go?

Jess: I ran my own dog walking business when I was 8. I was an employee of the month for 2 years straight.

Jono: I delivered for a hero spot in the town where I grew up. The owners also owned a Mexican restaurant so I worked there too. Coincidently one of their kids was our first student at the martial arts school I ran with my dad.

How are you staying positive and creatively fulfilled right now?

Jess: Taking it week by week and seeing it as a staycation, not quarantine. I made a fort in my living room.

Jono: This is the best reset we’ve had in a long time. It’s time to look inward and repair.

Where is the worst place you’ve found glitter?

Jess: My cat.

Jono: My butt.

Jess: I was gonna say that but got shy!
