Would you rather…

Only be able to write using finger paint or only be able to talk through a megaphone?

We're a fairly brash group of buff boys, so definitely a megaphone.

Some questions with My Son The Doctor

Hey there, welcome to the blog. Can you tell us a little about My Son The Doctor?

3/4 of us met in the heat of puberty as relatively fit middle schoolers in Northern California. We spent our lunch breaks dreaming of being doctors and playing songs to pass the time. We reconnected in NY in 2016 and decided to form a new band, swooping up our Catholic drummer Johnny Mason in the process.

What is the best Wi-Fi name you have seen in your entire life?

A few of us live together, and our wifi has been 'Wifi, I hardly know her' for about 5 years. It's not very witty though. The password is 'password' if you can find it.

You’ve got a new single ‘MESH’ that’s a lot of fun. What was the creative drive behind it?

We love writing loud songs that are short and leave you wanting more. Maybe it's the zoomers in us, but we love a tight 2 minuter. We're also a fabric obsessed band, and we've found that truly no textile comes close to being as transparent as Mesh. It's the definitive cloth of Bushwick, impenetrable and vulnerable at the same time, and we've been called the definitive band of Bushwick by certain thought leaders. Mesh originally didn't have any cowbell in it, and so it obviously sucked. But then we put cowbell in, and it was suddenly great.

Have you had a chance to play the song live yet? How did it go?

We've probably played it 100 times. It's our 'we're-here' song. It's our 'welcome to the party, pal' song. Is it the anthem of Bushwick?

If the price was no option what would be the perfect bagel?

Fresh quail egg and duck confit absolutely LOADED with capers. Really loaded. If you can see the bagel, that's not enough capers. Best on a plain bodega bagel.

What is your go-to Karaoke song? Why?

It's A Thousand Miles medleyed into Jesus of Suburbia medleyed into It's Oh So Quiet and that's the only option.

That's for anywhere but Philly. In P-town it's Eric Whitacre's high-school choir arrangement of the Rocky Theme Song "Gonna to Fly Now" by Bill Conti

From the coverage I’ve seen your live shows have an electrifying energy. What goes into putting on one of your performances?

It's about 95% Red Bull and 5% a crippling desire for strangers affirmation.

What is the best piece of merch you have ever bought?

Joel has a Dead Tooth t-shirt that's gotten a lot of play recently. Shout out to The Tooth.

The singles out and you’ve been playing some shows in NYC do you have anything else cooking?

Our live shows right now are probably half songs we haven't recorded yet, so we're sitting on maybe 10-15 unrecorded songs. We're hoping to put out something big next year. Until Matador calls us back, we're also obsessed with the movie heat and our concept EP 'The Heat-P ' may sometime see the light of day.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

If you've read this far, you deserve a pat on the head. Come see us live. You won't regret it. Also, call your mom! You don't need to come to our live shows, you really should, but you should really call your mom. Did you know that 8/10 your moms are unsatisfied with the rate of calls they receive from their children? Call a your mom today. (edited)
