Hooray for computers!

A genre that absolutely dominated the late 70s into early 80s synthpop has taken many different forms over the years and has also found a special place in my heart. Today it still has a strong base and it continues to inspire fantastic works from artists all over NYC. Take a look below and see for yourself.

Net Worth: Jex Opolis

All my favorite synthpop tropes are here but pumped up to maximum overdrive. It’s the future baby! Fans of New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and Human League will find a lot to love about this record.

Sabrina Song: community Twenty

A short but bittersweet trip this single is a surefire hit for those of you into the melancholy avenues of synthpop. With the front end of the release leaning more into alt-pop, the second track goes all out synthpop all over the place.

Guitar: Guitar

Let’s not forget about the rock! One of the best qualities of synth-pop is that it is able to blend and merge with albums seamlessly. This EP by Guitar is a terrific example.

Empress Of: I'm Your Empress Of

A beautiful polished and passionate piece of music. Punchy too because I have not used enough “P” words yet. Anyway, this is a fantastic album drenched in glamor, and if that sounds like your thing go give it a little listen.

Bizarre Carnival: Be Quiet! Satan is Talking

Oh boy, you did not think I was not going to slip a little of the darker side of synthpop into here. Gosh darn, I have a lot of love for this release. Combining elements of Memphis rap, industrial, and synthpop this is a lo-fi dream.
