Meet PARIIAH

The newly formed PARIIAH is a four-piece post-metal-punk band from New Jersey. The band’s members are steeped in the history of the NJ and have been involved in countless projects leading up to PARIIAH. We got a chance to chat with their guitarist Nate about dinosaurs, influences, and how PARIIAH was founded. Check it out.

“VIDEO GAMES” A Fill in the Blank With PARIIAH

I love DANCE video games. I can play them day and POLE! My mom and PSYCHIC are not too happy with me DUMPSTER DIVING so much time in front of the television TURD. Although Dad believes that these ROUND games help children develop hand-BALLS coordination and improve their learning BALLS, he also seems to think they have DWARFISH side effects on one's LEG. Both of my LOAVES think this is due to a HARD WORKING.use of violence in the majority of the COMMUNISTS. Finally, we all arrived at a FAST compromise: After dinner, I can play 9.hours of video games, provided I help clear the OATMEAL and wash the SOCKS.

Would You Rather

have a perfect photographic memory, or be able to see up to one day into the future?

A perfect photographic memory for sure. Messing with the future scares the hell out of me. I've seen how things end up badly in far too many sci-fi films. Plus my memory is so bad as it is that it would be nice to actually have one that was perfect. It would make my wife very happy.

Some questions with PARIIAH

What is your favorite dinosaur? Why is it your favorite?

I’d have to go with the pteranodon. Why you ask? Because they can fly and they look so brutal and menacing. Its a very metal looking dinosaur. Plus things seem safer in the sky.

What narratives do you gravitate towards in your writing? Why?

I guess I’d have to go with social issues. You might not see it in the writing but just being a part of society, and that feeling of not always fitting in tends to stir up those angry emotions that make for great lyrical content.

Where is somewhere you have always wanted to record?

MorrisSound Recordings in Tampa Florida. They’ve recorded so many important bands in the metal genre over the years. It was the "it" studio for metal at one time. MORBID ANGEL, NAPALM DEATH, OBITUARY, KREATOR, ASSUCK, MASTER, DEICIDE, DEATH…the list of great bands who have recorded there goes on.

How have your previous projects influenced the work you are making under Pariiah?

Personally I’ve done so many bands and projects over the past 35 years that it's hard for it not to influence what I’m doing at any given time. I'm actually ok with that.

What was the catalyst that brought the project together?

I was playing drums in a band called GREEN DRAGON. I’d had some health issues that made it very difficult to continue the drums physically due to pain. I’d picked up the guitar again after 10 years of not playing and things came back to me easily and very naturally. I'd talked to my friend/tattoo artist Adam about trying to do some heavy slower stuff together and that was where things got started. I met Paul through another friend and liked him as a person and asked him if he was interested. Brian the bassist played in a lot of hardcore bands over the years as a guitarist. Finding someone to play bass was hard so we just asked him as he’s been a long-time friend of mine and wasn't really doing anything at the moment.

What was the inspiration behind your 2020 release ‘SWALLOWED BY FOG’?

Lets just say Covid and everything negative that has come along with it.

When the day comes and we can have shows again what is the song you are most looking forward to playing live? Why?

All of them really… because we have yet to play them live together in front of an audience yet.

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

Thanks for reaching out to us, and having an interest in the band. We have a 6 song cassette (yup a tape) out on Trip Machine Labs. Would love for people to check us out there or on our Bandcamp.
