I’m a sucker for anything that reminds me, even faintly, of Mazzy Star. New EP Soft Spot from ethereal melancholic pop outfit Sister definitely evokes a lot of the fuzzy fade of 90’s indie rock. There’s a warmth to the mournfulness of this EP, the coziness of home, a place where it’s safe to work through your sorrow. Definitely want to see a little more variety from this group in future releases. Perfect EP for what’s looking to be an isolating Autumn.

I like it. I want to see this live if I could sit down on the floor. Totally a fan of her and what she can do with her pretty voice. I would stand up at their concert if they had a rock band with a little more experimentation. That being said, I enjoy sitting down in a going-to-see-Twilight-in-theaters-in-2008 kinda way.

Not much to say about this one. If you have read my other reviews you can get an idea of my music tastes, and you know that I am not a knowledgeable music person. Sister. is very talented and has a lot going for them. But that being said the music is not made for me and doesn’t resonate with me, but I respect it. I will say it is a soft and sad EP, it’s good for just curling up in your dark room alone while listening to sad music.

Loot at these two making me feel all sad and stuff. Sister. is a band that uses a period in in the name of their project which always hurts my brain when it comes time to write about them. I will try not to let that bother me though. Epically because I liked this release a fair bit. “Soft Spot” has revealed my own gooey center. I constantly trip over myself to find more whispery slow and atmospheric musical acts. Sister. has a firm grip on this sound. Through the three track on this release they will take you from sitting on a sofa listening to your friend, to a massive fucking stadium with pyrotechnics where you realize you lost your phone and all the friends you came in with.
