Some questions with Trent of Speck

Hi Hello. Thanks for putting this together with us. Can you tell me about the project? Who is Speck?

A dead beach boy looking for his next hit, carrot juice, guitar center returns (full refund no questions asked), and a man on fire.

What would the title of your memoir/biography be?

It’s incredible how I…

What is your connection to NYC?

NYC will fuck you up, then give you a half assed hi 5; just like my baseball coach as a kid

What was the best piece of advice you ever received?

“Google it”

You recently released your S/T album on Primordial Void. How long has this been in the works?

Over 2 years. Took us 3 different sessions to record the damn thing; the first guy was really high and fell asleep during the recording. Maybe we’ll put that version out down the road. Then Covid came along and we all were doing different shit and couldn’t even think about music for a while. I think we could’ve sat on it for another couple years but Marcel over at Primordial is the sweetest and was down to put it out for us. That set everything in motion. But Marcel was at our first house shows in Santa Cruz, CA back in 2016, so you could say this has all been in the works since then.

How do you feel about the reception to the album so far?

We are still waiting on a write up from Bill Gray

Who would you want to play you in a movie?

No one

Coffee or Tea? How do you take it?

Coffee. Regular milk. Give me the real shit

What has been your favorite live performance to date? Why?

It’s a tie. They were consecutive nights in a row. Night 1 was in Arcata, CA at blondies. We had just driven all day from Oregon and showed up to a bunch of hippies doing a drum circle open mic thing. The booker said “my bad i double booked, but you can play after”. Sick. So they finished, we loaded our shit in, turned everything up and played our set. Right away the bartender and owner were running over screaming at us to turn it down; like causing a huge scene. We all put our heads down, played the rest of our set, and got out of there so fucking fast. We can’t ever go back there. Night 2 was in Davis, CA. Turtle house basement. Holy shit. People were flying through the air and swinging on piping on the ceiling. Shoutout Eric, Coleman, and Nash for the Davis connection. We love you!!

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

More shout outs to Mike Kriebel, Will Killingsworth, Bill Gray, crazy Brian, ufo Brian, Jeff Fribourg, Nick Normal, TLBM, Pure Shit, Economy Music, Will Iermini, ZP, and the rest of our friends and supporters over the years.
