The Chats, “High Risk Behavior”

“High Risk Behavior” emulates the spirit of pre and post lockdown life. With chummy and convivial songs like “Drunk n Disorderly” and “Identity Theft”, I’m even more restless to get back into society and live out these punky anecdotes. The Chats self-described style of “shed rock” is fast-paced, abrasive, and scrappy, but the lyrical content of their songs are always curiously and sweetly optimistic.

Chubby and The Gang: “Speed Kills”

Speed kills is the youthful pub rock album I didn't know I needed this year. It's one of those albums that lets you relish the musical styles of the band’s influences, like the Ramones or Iron Virgin, while still setting themselves and their music apart. Not to mention, with most of the members having surfaced in British hardcore bands in the early 2010s, they have an amusing aptitude to challenge authority.

The Garden: “Kiss My Super Bowl Ring”

Now that the pandemic has me back home living with my parents again, this album is perfect for listening to absurdly loud and freaking out my mom. Kiss My Super Bowl Ring marries The Gardens’s erratic hardcore style with some semi anxiety-inducing electronics, creating an unconventional album that sends some pretty deafening messages.
