Meet The Ferdy Mayne

Who is that gruff rumbling voice I keep hearing in my head every time I eat granola? Telling me to take it easy, and smell all the flowers even the ones that have bee's in them? I may never know where that voice comes from, but I will know the perfect soundtrack for it’s entrance. That would be where The Ferdy Mayne steps in. A true folk hero right up there with the apple seed guy, and the big ox fella. Sound like somebody you want to meet? Than cast your gaze below where he starts talking and I stop.

The Ferdy Mayne

Although we believe ourselves to be COYLY civilized, most of us are really LADDERS at heart, because we still believe in GENTLE superstitions that began while humans still lived in CHILDREN. Some of these superstitions are:

1. If you spill salt, throw some over your left SHOULDER for TRADITIONAL luck.

2. If a black UNICORN.runs in front of you, you are in TURBULENT trouble.

3. If you break a SALT, you will have 14 years of LOUD luck.

4. Never SLEEP .under a ladder.

5. If your ELBOW.itches, it means you will have a MAJESTIC visitor.

6. If you want to keep vampires away from you, always wear FIG on a string around your TOE.

Would you rather Live the rest of your life underwater or in space. Also please tell us why.

I would live underwater as I'm not sure if there's anything else out there in space to experience the spirited joy of living with.

What is your go-to Karaoke song? Why?

I usually do something by Springsteen (Hungry Heart or Thunder Road) but I gotta admit I can rock a mean "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow" or Petty track.

How many legs are too many legs?

Gimme s'more legs, please.

If you could only use 10 words for the rest of your life what would they be?

Tight, perfect, yes, no, doobie, hungry, fun, shit, love, potato

If you could bottle the smell of one of your live performances what would it smell like?

Almond tea cake.

What are your top albums of 2019 so far?

Townes Van Zandt - Sky Blue

Jessica Pratt - Quiet Signs

Connor Oberts/Phoebe Bridgers - Better Oblivian Community Center

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I pull it from living in New York City, my fiancé and a lot of reading. My friends are also a big well to draw from, be them here or across the world.

What was the intention with your latest self titled album?

Our main intention was to get the songs a proper treatment and to share them. I hadn't done a full length ever for Ferdy. Some of those songs are from ten years ago, some were very new. It's a collection of stuff I've been playing for years or had written even when I was pretty young. We also built a band specifically to get this record done. I had been playing solo in New York up until the tracking of this record, so it was also an important pivotal moment in the evolution of performing live for me.

That's a big chumba.

What do you think of this image?

What was your first live performance like?

I played bass in a christian pop punk band in middle school. We performed at a church that I had never been to. I think it was pretty bad. Our singer really liked attention. I just liked bass.

What was the last thing you bought that you regret?

A lot of older books are now in the public domain. Via Amazon, there's definitely some that are pressed with no intention in terms of font, paper quality, etc. I buy them and get very sad, it happens to me all the time and I hate these repressings, they severely bum me out!

Any final comments? (This is your electronic soapbox for one last answer.)

The most important foundation of what you are doing is tied to your collaborations with others. Really get yourself into the routine of having gratitude for the people around you and the way in which your life has panned out. It will also help you when you are not pulling your weight (and a symptom of ambition is knowing when you're not!).

The people around you (the people you play with/collaborate with, your significant other, the friends you spend time with, your co-workers) are all dependent on your success, just as you are to theirs. You owe it to the world to share your best self always. That is the pact you must have. Give it a whirl.

Thank you Sean so much!
