A self-portrait by, Lost boy ?

Would you rather…

your toilet be made of Playdoh or your bed be filled with Chia Pets?

I'd prefer a toilet made of playdoh. Colorful and hopefully dry.

Some questions with Lost boy ?

If the sky wasn't blue what color would you want it to be?

If I had to choose another color it would most likely be something similar like turquoise for everyone's sanity. If the sky wasn't blue I think it would be a bit frightening if we are talking scientifically.

Can you give us a little background on your upcoming album “POP SONGS FOR DUMMIES”? Where/when did it start?

The sketches and rough ideas began somewhere in 2019. The album title I had for quite some time and eventually found its way to a song and into the title track.

How long has “POP SONGS FOR DUMMIES” been in the works?

Officially it was in the works for about 2 years- mixing and sculpting the sounds. I wasn't intending on a record when I started. I was thinking more along the lines of singles. There is one track that was released a few years ago entitled "Pure Decay" that could be grouped into these sessions.

What was going on in your life while working on “POP SONGS FOR DUMMIES”?

Natalie and I recently got married, pregnant, and had a beautiful baby girl during the pandemic which is wonderful and I am eternally grateful. For safety concerns everyone knows there has been much isolation over the past few years so the recording process went hand and hand.

Can you pin down any major influences that inspired the music on this record?

The title and the songs both come from my sarcastic vision of repetitious "Pop". Sometimes it feels like modern music can be on repeat (plus some artists all sound the same) and the radio has been held hostage to play these songs over and over until you like them. I'm not saying "pop" music is bad at all, I actually enjoy a lot of it. There has been a reenergizing feeling lately. All music is relevant in my opinion. On that note, making these songs I had this in mind. I wanted to come at it with many styles and flavors. I was diving deeper into my love for Electronic / Dance / Trip Hop / Funk / Dub / Improv & Free-Jazz. A few direct artist inspirations would be Tricky, Underworld, Mr. Fingers and jamming with my good friends in The Turtle Rubs.

What kind of gear did you lean on while recording “POP SONGS FOR DUMMIES”?

I strictly used Ableton which was the first time I would record non-analog. It was and still is very new to me. I had borrowed some midi keyboards and also experimented with self sampling.

Have you ever had a nickname? Why?

"Why?" is a good question. Endearment.

What are you hoping to get into after the album drops? Are you looking to play out live or get back into recording more?

I will be playing a show October 22 2022 at Windjammer with my good friends- but not many plans otherwise. I truly enjoy the recording processes more than regurgitating songs live. I enjoy being with my family and close friends these days.

What is your favorite word/phrase?

I have a few: "Indeed", "friendship", "Oh YEAH?"

In your mind, what are three objectively superior pop songs from any decade?

here are my favorite Pop songs from the last 3 years:

Silk Sonic - "Leave the Door Open"

Lizzo - "About Damn Time"

Khruangbin - "Pelota"
